The Treasure Island City Commission held a special meeting on Monday, Jan. 8, to move forward with how to appoint someone to the District 3 Commissioner seat that was left vacant after the resignation of Commissioner/Vice Mayor Saleene Partridge on Dec. 30, 2023. The City Charter provides that the City Commission must appoint someone to fill the vacancy within 30 days of the seat being vacated.
The qualifications to be considered for appointment are:
- The individual must be a registered voter in the city.
- The individual must be a qualified elector of the district in which they will service.
- Hold no other elected or appointed public office.
The Commission voted to have those interested in applying complete a letter of interest that includes specific information and submit the related documents in person to the City Clerk at City Hall, or by email to cityclerk@mytreasureisland.org. Letters of interest can be submitted up to Friday, Jan 12, at noon.
Items to include on Letters of Interest:
- Name and Address
- How long have they lived in the City
- Why do they want to serve City as an appointed Commissioner
- Education and Professional Experience or attach a resume
- Any public service or involvement in Treasure Island
- Current and Past involvement with the City or any City Boards
At the regular Commission meeting on Jan. 16, the City Commission will review and consider the letter of interests received and potentially make an appointment to fill the vacancy District/Seat 3. The appointment will be for the remaining term which will be effective through March 31, 2025. Those interested in filling the vacant Commission seat are encouraged to attend the Jan. 16 Commission meeting to introduce themselves.
The Commission also voted to have Commissioner Beth Wetzel, Commissioner District 4, to serve as Vice Mayor.
