The City Commission passed Resolution 2023-14 allowing waiver of certain permit fees for emergency repairs. This waiver of permit fees is effective for permits applied for to correct damage from Hurricane Idalia and applies for specific types of permits applied for between September 6, 2023, and through and including October 18, 2023. For these specific types of storm-related damage, building permit fees and review fees are being waived:
- Wall repair/wall replacement
- Fence installation
- Tree removal
- Installation of soffits, fascias and gutters
- Roof repair/roof replacement
- Electrical for meter bases/power surges on appliances
- Exempt site work
In the wake of the storm and in compliance with state statutes the city is also offering expedited permit review for certain types of permits when they do not require floodplain review.
- Roof Repairs (if less than 25% of roof surface)
- Re-Roofing
- Electrical Repairs (Dock, Pool)
- Electrical panel change-out
- HVAC mechanical change-out
- Hot water heater change-out
- Replacement of one window
- Replacement of one door
This expedited review also includes emergency demolition permits for:
- Drywall removal
- Insulation removal
- Flooring and trim removal
With the three emergency permits listed above you may start work after notifying the city and apply for the permit within 48 hours of notification.
