Hurricane Idalia Update

Idalia Cone Aug 29 8 a.m.

All of Treasure Island is in Evacuation Zone A which is under a mandatory evacuation. Residents and businesses should be finalizing their storm preparations. Currently there are no plans to close bridges around Treasure Island. If the path of the storm changes or conditions are predicted to worsen, then a decision will be made whether to restrict access to the island by closing the bridges. City officials will communicate that message if necessary.

  • Secure all outdoor furniture, trash and recycling bins, loose items etc.
  • DO NOT set out yard debris because there will be no collection until Thur., Aug. 31. Please refrain from placing limbs/yard waste or debris along the streets until the storm passes.
  • Elevate items off the floor.
  • If you can’t take vehicles when evacuating, you can move your vehicles to city-owned lots at City Hall and the Community Center. Check MyTreasureIsland.com/Parking for locations.
  • Electric vehicles should be taken off the island and inland. Saltwater can cause EV batteries to combust.
  • Lock all doors and turn off your power and gas before you evacuate.
  • Take pictures of important property and gather important documents (insurance policies, etc.)

The County Information Center (CIC) is open for preparedness questions and special needs registration from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Call (727) 464-4333.

Shelter Information:

What to expect:

  • NWS expects tropical storm-force winds to impact Pinellas County early this evening until Wednesday afternoon.
  • 6-10 inches of rain possible
  • 4-7 feet storm surge along the Pinellas County coast. Life-threatening storm surge and rainfall are still expected to cause flooding in low-lying and coastal areas.
  • Localized street flooding is possible. DO NOT drive through floodwaters. Six inches of moving water has the potential to knock you off your feet, and a foot of water can sweep a vehicle—even a large SUV—off the road.
  • A few tornadoes may be possible.

Power Outages:

  • Report your outage by texting OUT to 57801, report online or call 228.8485.
  • Sign up to get phone email alerts or you can text REG to 57801* to get text alerts about power outages, estimated restoration times, any information about the cause of the outage and status of Duke crews working to restore power.
  • If you see a fallen power line or safety hazard, call Duke Energy at 800.228.8485 or contact local emergency services immediately. Do not touch a power line or anything in contact with it and keep others away until help arrives.
