Recommended Minimum Flows for Horse Creek and Charlie Creek
Horse Creek and Charlie Creek
Horse Creek and Charlie Creek are two tributaries of the Peace River that cover portions of DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands and Polk counties. Horse Creek is the river's largest tributary, running 54 miles and joins the river in southwest DeSoto County. Charlie Creek runs 42 miles and joins the river at the rural community of Gardner.
Minimum flows (MFLs) are limits established by the District’s Governing Board for surface watercourses that are intended to prevent significant harm to the water resources or ecology of an area that may be caused by water withdrawals. The MFLs in development for Horse Creek and Charlie are the first MFLs for these two tributaries.
