PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — The St. Lucie West Services District (SLWSD) has begun construction of a second Class I injection well, at its Water Treatment Facility located at 450 SW Utility Drive in St. Lucie West. This new well will safely dispose of the concentrate generated by the district’s reverse osmosis water treatment processes.

Youngquist Brothers LLC, the selected contractor, will construct the well at a total cost of approximately $7.7 million, with completion expected by Dec. 31, 2025. This project supports the District’s long-term plan to improve utility infrastructure in response to growing demand and rising operational costs. SLWSD’s recent and upcoming utility rate adjustments are directly tied to funding this and other critical improvements intended to meet increased utilities demand and maintain competitive rates.

“A second injection well enhances our reliability, provides operational backup during maintenance, and ensures regulatory compliance,” said District Manager Joshua Miller. “This investment protects both service continuity and environmental safety as our community exponentially grows.”

Class I injection wells are deep, federally regulated systems used to dispose of reverse osmosis reject water. These wells inject the concentrate thousands of feet underground into confined rock formations well below drinking water sources, offering a long-term, environmentally responsible disposal solution.

St. Lucie West residents near the Water Treatment Facility should expect construction noise throughout the project. Work will comply with all St. Lucie County noise ordinances.

SLWSD is an independent, 4,600-acre community development district that provides potable water, wastewater treatment, stormwater management, and reclaimed irrigation water to the St. Lucie West area. It is governed by a five-member elected Board of Supervisors. The district's service area extends from Florida’s Turnpike to Interstate 95, and from the C-108 Canal north of Peacock Boulevard to Crosstown Parkway.
