The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is discharging water from Lake Okeechobee to the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee Estuaries, and the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is taking action to help shorten the duration of these harmful discharges to the northern estuaries.
SFWMD is working hard to reduce the amount of water flowing into Lake Okeechobee (“inflows”) and increase the amount of water leaving Lake Okeechobee (“outflows”). This combined effort with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers helps reduce the Lake’s rate of rise and shortens the duration of harmful discharges to the estuaries.
Total Inflows: 4,300 cfs (2.8 billion gallons a day)
Inflows represent the amount of water entering Lake Okeechobee.
-
Surface Water Inflows: 2,250 cfs (1.5 billion gallons a day)
-
Rainfall: 2,050 cfs (1.3 billion gallons a day)
Total Outflows: 8,179 cfs (5.3 billion gallons a day)
Outflows represent the amount of water leaving Lake Okeechobee.
Outflows South
-
S-351 flows: 580 cfs (375 million gallons a day)
-
S-352 flows: 200 cfs (130 million gallons a day)
-
S-354 flows: 260 cfs (170 million gallons a day)
Outflow East/West
-
S-308 flows: 1,270 cfs (821 million gallons a day)
-
S-77 flows: 4,100 cfs (2.6 billion gallons a day)
Evapotranspiration: 1,769 cfs (1.1 billion gallons a day)
Net Outflow: 3,879 cfs (2.5 billion gallons a day)
A net outflow means that more water is leaving the lake than entering it.
Lake Okeechobee Level - Daily Change

Tropical Depression Eta
Tropical Depression Eta may impact Florida within the next week and may bring increased rainfall throughout South Florida. SFWMD is actively managing our system of canals and structures to reduce Lake Okeechobee discharges and prepare for potential rainfall. Cumulative forecasted rainfall for the next seven days is below.
