Daily Update on Lake Okeechobee Releases

Nov-3-Lake O- graphic

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is discharging water from Lake Okeechobee to the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee Estuaries, and the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is taking action to help shorten the duration of these harmful discharges to the northern estuaries.

SFWMD is working hard to reduce the amount of water flowing into Lake Okeechobee (“inflows”) and increase the amount of water leaving Lake Okeechobee (“outflows”). This combined effort with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers helps reduce the Lake’s rate of rise and shortens the duration of harmful discharges to the estuaries.

Total Inflows: 4,210 cfs (2.7 billion gallons a day)

Inflows represent the amount of water entering Lake Okeechobee.

  • Surface Water Inflows: 3,210 cfs (2.1 billion gallons a day)
  • Rainfall: 1,000 cfs (650 million gallons a day)

Total Outflows: 8,543 cfs (5.5 billion gallons a day)

Outflows represent the amount of water leaving Lake Okeechobee.

Outflows South

  • S-351 flows: 230 cfs (150 million gallons a day)
  • S-352 flows: 700 cfs (450 million gallons a day)
  • S-354 flows: 430 cfs (280 million gallons a day)

Outflow East/West

  • S-308 flows: 910 cfs (590 million gallons a day)
  • S-77 flows: 3,890 cfs (2.5 billion gallons a day)

Evapotranspiration: 2,383 cfs (1.5 billion gallons a day)

Net Outflow: 4,333 cfs (2.8 billion gallons a day)

A net outflow means that more water is leaving the lake than entering it.
