Reminder for those traveling through downtown: Construction at the Ringling Boulevard/Pine Place intersection is underway and full closure of all lanes will begin Saturday, May 4 as the traffic signals are replaced with a roundabout.
You’ll be able to access the U.S. Post Office, Sarasota County Administration Building, and adjacent properties. Do not drive around the construction barricades. Please follow the detour signs.
Conversations and public meetings about the roundabout date back to 2013 when it became a project priority for the Metropolitan Planning Organization, then it was discussed many times with the City Commission.
The intersection will be temporarily closed until January 2025. When reopened, the new roundabout will work in conjunction with the three other roundabouts on Ringling Boulevard to boost traffic flow efficiency and increase safety.
More information can be found on the project webpage.

We’re continuing community outreach for our 10th Street and Boulevard of the Arts Complete Streets project.
Last fall, we asked for feedback about the initial conceptual designs during two open houses and multiple surveys. That feedback has been incorporated into a proposed design that will be available for review during a public meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 23 in the SRQ Media Studio located in the City Hall Annex, 1565 Street.
The project team would like input about the proposed design and potential impacts to sidewalks, landscaping, hardscape, public art and more.

Recently, the City of Sarasota’s Code Compliance team conducted a 2-week education campaign regarding business transactions at public recreation areas.
The Code Compliance team handed out over 400 flyers explaining that City ordinance prohibits swiping debit/credit cards or exchanging cash on site at public recreation areas.
Rental businesses are not prohibited from launching or retrieving rented watercraft at public boat ramps as long as transactions are not conducted on public park property.
We’d like to remind everyone to observe City ordinances to help ensure our public spaces remain safe, accessible and enjoyable for all.
