Construction will soon begin on the next roundabout in downtown.
The awkward signalized intersection at Ringling Boulevard and Pine Place adjacent to the post office will be replaced with a modern roundabout.
The City’s contractor has received a Notice to Proceed and we anticipate the intersection will be closed to traffic in late April. In addition to a single-lane roundabout, the project will include drainage and utility adjustments, light pole replacements, irrigation, paver crosswalks at each of the four legs of the roundabout and a new Sarasota County Breeze shelter.
When opened by the end of January 2025, the roundabout will complete a necklace of roundabouts along Ringling Boulevard: Palm Avenue, Pineapple Avenue and Orange Avenue – all helping with the continuous flow of traffic while boosting safety by greatly reducing severe crashes.
We’ll keep you posted!

How do you envision Main Street between US 41 and School Avenue? Our Transportation Planning team is continuing community outreach and gathering public input as we look to improve traffic and mobility safety, landscaping and more along Main Street.
During our recent Visioning Workshop, 80 citizens joined us at the Selby Library and participated in interactive sessions to review the current conditions on Main Street and preferred styles for hardscape, landscape, bike racks, lighting, seating and more. Attendees also created their own conceptual Main Street. Thank you to all who participated!
We’re hosting two open houses for those who missed the workshop or would like to share additional input. The project information will be the same as what was presented during the workshop, but the format will be less formal. The public is invited to come and go anytime during the open houses:
- Tuesday, April 23: Noon – 5 p.m.
- Wednesday, May 1: 3 – 7 p.m.
Both events will be held in the SRQ Media Studio located in the City Hall Annex. We hope to see you there!
In the meantime, don’t forget to take our Main Street Complete Streets survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MainStreetVisioning
More details about the project scope and anticipated timelines can be found at www.Sarasotafl.gov/MainStreetCompleteStreets

It’s updated regularly to display information about specific projects, including project description, status, important dates and contact information.
Currently, 40+ projects are listed. Curious about capital projects underway near you? Check out the webpage here. It also can be found via the City’s Capital Projects page.
Five of the six boat ramp lanes at Centennial Park are open once again following emergency repairs. An underwater inspection revealed that most of the damaged concrete areas could be fixed rather easily. Lane 5, though, will require more extensive repairs than originally anticipated and will remain temporarily closed. We’ll keep you posted. Thanks for your patience and thank you to our Parks and Recreation team for working quickly to reopen as many ramp lanes as possible for boaters.
