City of Punta Gorda Hurricane Helene September 29, 2024 |
|
Catastrophic Storm Surge
The City of Punta Gorda suffered significant damage from the storm surge associated with Hurricane Helene. It is estimated that the majority of the north end of the City saw six to eight feet of storm surge. Hundreds of individuals and their pets were rescued throughout the night on September 27. Your Punta Gorda Police Department, Punta Gorda Fire Department, Public Works Department and Utilities Department worked to keep residents safe before, during and after the storm. Their efforts are to be commended. As we transition to recovery life/safety measures will remain the priority. We also would like to thank the North Port Police Department, Desoto County Fire Department, Charlotte County Fire Department, and Fat Truck for their assistance on September 27.

Debris Separation
The graphic and media advisory provide details regarding how to separate the debris being removed from residential properties that were damaged by flooding. As with Hurricane Ian, those materials are not picked up until a majority of residents have had the opportunity to get the materials removed. As soon as this occurs a pick up date will be released.

Regular Sanitation Services
The City sanitation services including garbage, recycling and yard waste pick up are all back on their regularly scheduled dates. Complete details are available here.
Residents can also utilize the Charlotte County transfer sites. More information is available here here.
