City Council, PAID meeting
The regular City of Plantation City Council meeting is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at City Hall.
Plantation Acres residents voted to disband their independent district status in favor of becoming a dependent district under the City, which as of Oct. 1 began managing canals, stormwater issues and more in the district.
The PAID board elected by residents is disbanded and City Councilmembers and the Mayor serve as the governing board now, as they also do for the Community Redevelopment Agency. PAID meetings will be held regularly in conjunction with the City Council meetings at City Hall and the first one is on Oct. 7.
The rest of the agenda is relatively routine. See the agenda or watch meetings live on our Agendas and Meeting Minutes page.
It’s just cleanup on Hiatus
Many residents have questioned why there have been big dusty machines moving dirt at the long-empty site at the southeast corner of Hiatus Road and Broward Boulevard.
The Broward County Public School District is doing remediation work that involves soil removal and its replacement with clean fill.
Since about 2021, the site has been undergoing environmental assessment with oversight from Broward County Environmental Permitting Division and Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). Following completion of the site assessment activities in 2025, Broward County Environmental Permitting Division approved a Voluntary Source Removal Plan.
This remediation effort is happening now. It is focused on addressing historical agricultural-related contamination and advancing the site toward regulatory closure under applicable commercial cleanup standards.
Upon completion of the excavation activities, the project will then transition into the post-remediation groundwater monitoring phase.
Jeff’s Bagel Run
Five days of opening activities highlight the arrival of Jeff’s Bagel Run, 12220 W. Sunrise Blvd.

The start time is 6:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9 for the grand opening. Anyone in line by that time is entered into a raffle for a dozen bagels plus spreads monthly for a year. The official ribbon-cutting is at 9 a.m.

Featured in Urban Land Magazine
The City is getting national recognition for the transformation taking place in our community.
Urban Land Magazine, a publication of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), recently featured the City’s efforts to transform the former Plantation General Hospital site and spur new investment in the Gateway District.
The article highlights how collaboration between the City, property owners and developers helped turn a long-vacant property into a catalyst for redevelopment, contributing to $140 million in investment in the area.
It’s another example of how thoughtful planning and strong partnerships can help us breathe new life into underused properties while creating opportunities for our future.
