Dear Plantation Residents,
Our budget process for 2026-27 is moving along, and I am now recommending reducing the millage rate that is used to compute your property taxes.
If approved, it would be the first millage rate cut since 2018. I’m asking the city council to approve a drop from 5.800 mils to 5.700 mils.
It is clear to me that affordability is a significant challenge for residents everywhere, including Plantation. So my staff and I have reviewed tentative budget proposals for 2026-27. There’s going to be a little bit of pain involved, but we believe we can maintain the high quality of services expected in our city while receiving less property tax revenue than expected from our residents. This rate would be the lowest since 2014.
The city council approved a 5.800 mils maximum millage rate requested by Administration at its July 23 meeting, but we also engaged in a general conversation about affordability and how to ease the burden on our residents and businesses. Our entire budget is now being presented to council members with the 5.700 mils I’m requesting, and budget hearings will be held on Sept. 10 and 17. The entire budget, dollar by dollar, will be available before the meeting, as per state law.
