Hello Plantation,
It's not your imagination: That smoky smell in the air is prevalent far and wide.
A smoky haze settled over parts of Broward County today after winds pushed smoke from a wildfire burning south of Lake Okeechobee into our area, according to officials.
They say the 10-acre wildfire in Palm Beach County does not pose a direct threat to residents, but shifting winds have carried smoke into Plantation and surrounding areas.
Plantation Mayor Nick Sortal said he spoke with public safety officials and there's no hazard at this time for those who are healthy, but “they say if you have known respiratory issues, you need to reduce your time spent outside.”
The high winds and low humidity make conditions more conducive to smoke traveling, according to the National Weather Service in Miami.
