Mayor’s chess challenge
The Mayors’ Chess Challenge, an endeavor to promote the game of chess, is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 8, at Volunteer Park.
Ten years ago, the Mayor of Sunrise began lining up cities to host a day of chess, with elected officials and others participating. (Thus, the name “Mayors’ Chess Challenge.”) Plantation is one of 21 cities participating.

Council meeting Wednesday
The Plantation City Council meets at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall and there are a handful of what I’d call moderate items.
On the agenda is a resolution to support a Midtown Bridge grant application, a request for additional funding to hire Concrete Works & Paving, Inc. to help us catch up on sidewalk repair (we’re overwhelmed), a presentation of roadway improvements for an intersection in Plantation Midtown and requests for advancing the Crossroads Residential project, 8151 Peters Road.
See the agenda at plantation.org/meetings.
