Crash prevention discussion
In an effort to prevent fatalities and serious injuries, Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization and the County partnered on a Safe Streets For All program. It is focusing on what it considers the 11 most dangerous corridors in the county.
Two are in Plantation: Broward Boulevard from University Drive west to Central Park Drive and State Road 7 from Sunrise Boulevard to Davie Boulevard.
To that end, the program proposes 23 “countermeasures” to make a roadway safer, ranging from speed limit reductions to raised crosswalks to lighting upgrades. Meetings to discuss options are scheduled at 6 p.m. Feb. 19 at West Regional Library and at 6 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Palms at Plantation Senior Living Community.

Improving SW 78th Avenue
Keith Engineering has created three options for improving all forms of traffic at Southwest 78th Avenue and Southwest Sixth Street. That area, south of Broward Mall, is part of Plantation Midtown and city planners have long recommended adjustments as the Midtown population grows.
Improving bicycling and pedestrian amenities are especially a point of emphasis. The plans will eventually be presented to the city council.
Goldfish Swim School approved
Indoor swimming instruction will be available in a shopping center on Sunrise Boulevard soon.
The city council approved plans Jan. 15 for Goldfish Swim School to be constructed at 8171-8181 W. Sunrise Blvd. as part of Jacaranda Plaza. The former spot for Clothes Mentor and T-Mobile is being combined to make a larger space to build the pool.
The first Goldfish Swim School opened in Birmingham, Michigan in 2006 and franchises have grown across the country. Pembroke Pines and Coral Springs are already sites. Go to GoldfishSwimSchool.com.
Two new businesses
Plantation Chamber of Commerce members visited two new businesses in recent days:
Face Foundrie has opened at 1031 S. University Drive. The shop features facials at reasonable prices. They also handle lashes, brows and skincare. (Email: Plantation@FaceFoundrie.com.)
The Face Foundrie opening is among several new stories in recent months at the revived Market on University site of a July 6, 2019, explosion. Businesses include Burtons Grill and Bar, Capriottis Sandwich Shop, Padrino’s, Night Owl Cookies, Stretch Lab and ICRYO.

Milky Moo is a milkshake shop located in Broward Mall. It’s the first Milky Moo in the United States, but there are 600+ franchises in Brazil. So it’s kind of like the Starbucks of milkshakes in Brazil…

Mystery auction for Relay
Supporters of Relay for Life, which raises money for the American Cancer Society, are invited to a mystery auction at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at the Plantation Fire Administration Building, 550 NW 65th Ave.
Guests are encouraged to bring inexpensive wrapped gifts, with a small card attached that provides a hint as to the contents. Attendees then bid (usually in $1 increments) on the items until the gift is won. Then it is immediately opened to determine if the buyer got a good deal or was fooled.
This is about the fifth mystery auction in recent years and somehow I became the auctioneer, a job that I still am proud to maintain. Come have some laughs and flex your charity muscles.
