Help After Milton, Fall Festival, Town Hall and more.
Our Police Department deployed one sergeant and five officers to the Tampa area on Sunday, Oct. 13. They are helping to ensure public safety and provide patrol support as the local community grapples with the impacts of Hurricane Milton. Plantation PD remains committed to supporting affected areas while continuing to safeguard our own community.

At the Oct. 14 Friends of the Helen B. Hoffman Plantation Library General Meeting, Mayor Sortal and Councilmember Reinstein presented a Proclamation in honor of National Friends of Libraries Week (October 20-26) 2024 recognizing their contributions to our community.
The group formed in 1970 and sponsors various programs, activities and services in support of the Library and the residents it serves. This past club year, the Friends have contributed $21,000 to the Library.

Their main fundraisers are used book sales held two weekends a month and an annual author luncheon held in March.

The popular Family Fall Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Volunteer Park, 12050 W. Sunrise Blvd.
Cost is $5 per person, ages 2 and older.
The day includes a children’s carnival, games and activities, inflatables, a Haunted House, arts and crafts, vendors and food. There will be free Halloween bags for kids.

The inaugural Wicked Bread Haunted Hustle costume run 5K is at 7 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Plantation Central Park.
The Halloween themed event encourages runners to wear costumes, enjoy the event festivities, and get free cinni-mini's. (Wicked Bread’s specialty is cinnamon bread.)
There also is a 5K cycling option, which will begin at 6:50 am. The cycling will utilize the same 5K course as the runners.

Plantation Walk hosts a car show, featuring hundreds of classic to modern muscle cars and trucks from all eras, makes, and models on the second Sunday of every month. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This month they added a second car and truck show on Oct. 19 dedicated to breast cancer awareness. They partnered with the Ft. Lauderdale Mustang Club and 100% of all proceeds from the Breast Cancer Awareness Car & Truck Show will benefit the Don Shula Foundation at Moffitt Cancer Center.
Adjacent restaurants have Sunday brunches, shops, and entertainment.

Broward Mall’s Island SPACE Caribbean Museum is collaborating with Caribbean Professionals Network and a number of South Florida bakers to present the third annual Rum Cake and Caribbean Black Cake Fest.
The event is from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20. Cake makers will offer tastes of traditional rum cake recipes as well as the dark fruit cake or plum pudding recipes popular in the English-speaking Caribbean islands, and affectionately known as “black cake” to many Caribbean nationals.

County Commissioner Steve Geller will conduct a Town Hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 at City Hall. Geller, whose district includes the southern part of Plantation, regularly has such events in order to hear from the public and answer questions.
He has other Town Halls booked for Oct. 23 in Cooper City and Oct. 29 in Davie.
You do not have to be a Plantation resident to attend.

October 26: Weekly Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Volunteer Park. Come pick up fresh produce, honey, breads, plants and more while connecting with the community and neighbors.
October 31: Trunk-or-Treat from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pine Island Park. Join an evening of trick or treating, a costume contest, arts & crafts and more.

Meetings
There are only four City Council meetings remaining in 2024. The next one is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at City Hall. That’s followed by two meetings in November and the final meeting of the year on Dec. 4.
