The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch in effect until 9 p.m. this evening. Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect.
Bulk, Trash, Yard Waste Service Suspension
In the abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of drivers, WM will suspend all collection operations in Broward County starting today, Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 3:00 p.m.
WM intends to resume service on Thursday, October 10, 2024, starting service at 7:00 a.m., as long as the weather and road conditions allow to do so safely.
Please refrain from placing additional yard waste or other bulky items at curbside. Secure or bring in any items that do not get collected before the service is suspended. Residential customers who may not be serviced today, October 9, 2024, will be serviced tomorrow, October 10, 2024, again assuming that it is safe to do so.

There are various precautions that can be taken to prepare for tornadoes. One of the most important is to know these terms used to describe tornado threats:

Tornado Watch: Tornadoes are possible. Stay alert and monitor local news.

Tornado Warning: A tornado has been sighted. Take shelter immediately.
What to Do During a Tornado:

At home or in a small building: Move to an interior room on the lowest floor (like a closet or hallway). Take cover under sturdy furniture, hold on, and protect your head. Stay put until it's safe.

In schools, hospitals, or large buildings: Head to pre-designated shelter areas, usually interior hallways on the lowest floor. Avoid windows and open spaces.

In a high-rise building: Go to a small, interior room or hallway on the lowest possible floor.

In vehicles, trailers, or mobile homes: Exit immediately and seek a more stable structure.

No shelter nearby: Lie flat in a ditch or low-lying area, using your hands to shield your head.
