Emergency Management staff continues to monitor Hurricane Milton, which has now strengthened to Category 4. As it is heading toward Florida, a flood watch is in effect through Thursday morning for our area. Now is the time to prepare and stay updated as conditions evolve. Here’s what you need to know:
City Services and Parks City crews are positioning resources in preparation for the potential wind and rain impacts. At this time, city operations and services are continuing as usual and are not impacted by the storm. Any changes will be communicated promptly.
Bulk Trash Collection For Monday, 10/7/2024, bulk, solid waste, and recycling collection remains on schedule. Waste Management will collect until sustained wind speeds exceed 35 mph or if roads become impassable. Garbage collection may be slowed due to heavy rains and standing water.
For collections scheduled Tuesday through Friday, please wait until the last moment to place bulk trash at the curb. If weather conditions prevent collection, bulk items can block drainage systems and contribute to flooding. For the same reason, now is NOT the time to trim trees. Remember, never place bulk trash, debris, or litter on storm drains or near fire hydrants.
Check for service impacts and delays anytime by visiting Wmfloridastorm.com.
Reporting Flooding With the expected rainfall, Plantation may experience localized flooding. City crews are ready, and our stormwater system is prepared to handle the incoming rain. The South Florida Water Management District has lowered canal levels throughout Broward County in anticipation of the storm.
If your home is threatened by flooding or you encounter downed trees, standing water or debris blocking roadways, please report it:
-
During business hours: Contact the Engineering Department at (954) 797-2282.
-
