Hurricane Helene - Gulf Coast of Florida
A Tropical Storm Warning is currently in effect for Broward County Wednesday, September 25 – Thursday September 26, with a flood watch until Friday, September 27. Plantation could experience localize flooding and tropical force wind gusts. City of Plantation crews are prepared for the rain and confident in our stormwater system to perform well. The South Florida Water Management District lowered canal levels throughout Broward County in anticipation for heavy rains.
At this time, city operations are not impacted as a result of the storm. The city recommends the following:
- Do not place trash/bulk debris or litter on top of drains or block hydrants
- Avoid driving or walking through flooded areas. Turn around, do not drown!
- Allow extra time for travel
- Reduce water usage to help avoid inundation of the sewer system, if heavy rain persists
- Sign up for emergency notifications at Plantation.org/Everbridge
If your home is threatened by flooding or you notice downed trees or debris in roadways, during business hours please report the issues to the Engineering Department at (954) 797-2282. After hours, please call police non-emergency 954-797-2100.
Broward County is collecting flooding information for their records. You can help them by visiting Broward County’s Document the Floods at Flooding.broward.org.
