Hometown Heroes, Community Resource Fair and more.
They’re up!
The city has been working for months on a recognition program for our veterans and banners alongside Broward Boulevard are now in place. Public Works employees attached the banners to existing poles on the south side of Broward Boulevard, between NW 70th Ave. and W. Tropical Way, Friday.
They feature a photo of the servicemember, branch of the military and years of service.
Thanks go to Councilmember Denise Horland, Assistant City Administrator Laura Karpaviciute, Public Works and Parks and Recreation. It's just another example of how it takes a team to make things happen.
They’ll be up until Veterans Day.

There are two landmark ceremonies Saturday, Aug. 24, commemorating progress on each side of our city.
At 9 a.m., we have the groundbreaking for North Acres Park, a 15-acre nature area in the Plantation Acres neighborhood. The address is 12001 NW 21st Court. Plantation voters in 2016 approved a bond for parks, public safety and public facilities. North Acres Park was listed in the plans.
At noon, we will hold the dedication of Kingsley Smith Park, in the Park East neighborhood. Mr. Smith, who passed away in 2023, helped organize the Park East neighborhood. The event is accompanied by the second annual “Barbecue with a Hero” and includes a DJ, music, fire and police demonstrations and food. The address is 4680 NW 9th Court.
Join us for a Community Resource Fair - hosted jointly with Broward Affordable Housing Task Force – on Saturday, September 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Volunteer Park.
Explore the services available for you and your family and connect with local community agencies.

The City of Plantation Utilities Department will be conducting its routine switch to free chlorination in our drinking water system from August 25 to September 8. This preventive maintenance measure is essential to ensure the continued safety and quality of our water supply.
While the majority of residents may not notice any changes, some may detect a slight difference in the taste or smell of their tap water during this period. Additionally, you may observe water flowing from fire hydrants in your area as part of this important process.
We want to assure everyone that the water remains safe for drinking, bathing, cooking, and other daily uses and meets all local, state, and federal standards for clean water.
However, residents who are undergoing kidney dialysis or have specific medical conditions should consult with their healthcare providers about the temporary increase in chlorine levels.
For more information, please visit at Plantation.org/FAQWater. Additional questions or concerns? Contact James Dunmire, Water Operations Superintendent, at 954-414-8898 or Water@Plantation.org.

Rheanna Lewis, one of the recipients of Councilmember Andreu’s Next Gen Plantation Scholarship, led the Pledge of Allegiance at the Aug. 21 City Council meeting. Rheanna graduated from Plantation High and is following in her mom’s footsteps by studying nursing with a master’s degree as her ultimate goal.
This is the fourth year Councilmember Andreu offered this opportunity to the promising high school seniors who reside in Plantation. The two other 2024 recipients are Chad Seals and Avery Redlich. Both earned GPA’s above 5.0. Chad graduated from South Plantation High and started at University of Florida, while Avery graduated from Nova and is headed to Brown University.
Hunger Action Month
Councilmember Andreu presented Feeding South Florida with a proclamation for Hunger Action Month. They lead hunger, food insecurity and poverty advocacy efforts in our community while transforming lives through innovative programs and education.
The city is committed to supporting Feeding South Florida, so that together we can achieve a hunger-free South Florida.

Cey Adams Day
Cey Adams, a visionary artist, found himself collaborating with notable recording artists such as the Beastie Boys and Kurtis Blow, landing him a collaborative partnership with Russell Simmons, founder of Def Jam Recordings.
Ten years ago, Cey Adams painted his first “Love” mural in Omaha, Nebraska and soon a movement had started, as cities across the United States wanted a bit of Love in their own communities
The City of Plantation, in partnership with Business for the Arts Broward, has commissioned Cey Adams to paint a “Love” mural in the newly renamed Kingsley Smith Park, which will be the second of eight murals planned for Broward County.
The City of Plantation is proud to expand its cultural art offerings with this significant and meaningful mural created by Adams.
Monday, September 2, City offices will be closed in observance of Labor Day. Normal operating hours will resume Tuesday, September 3.
Our parks will be functioning on Holiday hours. To see specific times of operation, visit Plantation.org/ParkHours.
