Hello Plantation,
You may have already heard that Florida Legislature passed a vacation rental bill, known as SB 280, that severely limits our ability to address negative impacts of bad vacation rentals on our single-family neighborhoods, such as Plantation Acres.
While it was promoted as a good bill that would standardize the process of short-term rental registrations across the state, it actually strips municipalities of their local registration programs. So, local governments and citizens throughout Florida who have been impacted by vacation rentals are contacting the Governor and urging him to veto SB 280.
Plantation spent months carefully crafting regulations that are based on input from all our stakeholders to address occupancy, parking, noise, and safety concerns for the benefit of our residents and visitors who stay at these properties. If SB 280 becomes law, the registration program Plantation approved would be completely wiped out.
I heard from residents on all sides of the political spectrum about the harmful effects of out-of-control vacation rentals. I sent a letter to the Governor (read letter here) advocating for a veto on behalf of our City. And, if you are impacted by this issue, I encourage you to call the Governor’s office and share your story and concerns.
