Hello Plantation,
Broward County is under a Flood Watch until Saturday evening. Heavy rainfall is expected throughout the County, including the City of Plantation, over the next couple of days.
In preparation for the rain, the South Florida Water Management District has lowered the canals. Help us take additional precautions: please avoid placing debris, garbage, or bulk items near storm drains. These can clog the drains and lead to flooding on your property or vehicle. Even just 1" of rain can cause damage to swales, sidewalks, and roads if water can't properly drain.
As you know, storms bring a possibility of temporary street flooding and potential hazards like downed power lines and tree limbs. Remember, never attempt to drive through flooded streets as it can be dangerous. Always remember the saying, “Turn around, don’t drown!”
While water pooling in the swales and on the roads is expected, if you have concerns about severe road flooding and water entering your house, call City’s stormwater manager Bill Mulder at (754) 283-0250.
Stay updated by monitoring the Weather Channel, local news, and our social media for any updates or alerts.
Thank you for working together to keep our community safe during this rainy period.
Sincerely,
Mayor Nick Sortal
