Deputy Police Chief James Dourvetakis was lauded at the March 27 City Council meeting. He is retiring after 29.9 years of service. He said he’d have loved to do a rounded-up full 30 years but he entered the DROP retirement portal awhile back and that committed him to a specific date.
He wasn’t idle for long. He started as a School Resource Officer on Monday, rotating among Plantation’s schools.

Food Waste Prevention Week
April 1 - 7 is Food Waste Prevention week. Everyone benefits from better utilizing food resources. A family of four can save an average of $1,500 on uneaten food annually and K-12 schools and universities have a special role in educating the next generation to reduce, recover, and recycle food. Students from South Plantation High School accepted the proclamation and informed the Council of their efforts in preventing food waste at their school and community.

Mayor's Monach Pledge
The City of Plantation has made sustainability a priority. As such, we are embarking on backing environmental causes such as supporting the monarch butterfly population. I was honored to sign the National Wildlife Federation’s Mayors’ Monarch Pledge. Cities, towns and counties have a critical role to play to help save this butterfly. Every resident of Plantation can make a difference by planting native milkweed and nectar plants to provide habitat for the monarch and pollinators in various locations.
