Restaurants, Stretch Lab, Woman's Club, Homes for Educators and more.
Two new food options have opened up in Plantation, and more are on the way.
PDQ Chicken and Playa Bowls began serving customers recently. PDQ offers chicken tenders (“not fingers or strips,” they advertise) and is at 10197 Cleary Blvd., an outparcel of the Plantation Promenade.
Meanwhile, Playa Bowls has replaced Clean Juice at 10053 Cleary Blvd., in the strip mall portion of Plantation Promenade. They do predominantly plant-based bowls, including acai, smoothies and juices.

At Plantation Walk, RA Sushi is about to come onboard at 319 N. University Dr. Construction is in final approvals.
At Market on University, Burtons Grill and Bar is looking at a late spring opening in the spot that Carrabba’s occupied before a 2019 explosion. There are 19 Burtons Grill locations along the east coast, including one in Boca Raton. Officials say their Crab Crusted Haddock, Maxx Burger, steaks, and entrée salads are among their most popular fare. They are also known for being food allergy friendly and their gluten-free menu. Total capacity is about 250, including outdoor dining, which is similarly sized to restaurants such as J. Alexander’s and Kaluz.

StretchLab, also at Market on University, held a ribbon-cutting and trial stretch event with the Plantation Chamber of Commerce recently. They had a soft open before Christmas. StretchLab adds to the list of new tenants that includes Padrino’s Cuban restaurant, iCRYO, Salons by JC, Night Owl Cookies, Man Cave and My VLMA. Burtons will anchor one corner when it opens.

CareMax, an all-in-one medical campus, also held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting. CareMax, at 4300-4306 W. Broward Blvd., has been open since late last year but wanted to formally welcome guests and prospective clients. South Florida Sales Manager Daniel Gasparutti joined me for a photo.
There are 50 CareMax locations in Florida, with 35 of them in South Florida. They do medical, dental, vision, rehab, massage therapy and such, and help transport patients to their facilities. (When you get older, you’ll learn that life is centered around medical appointments; being able to knock many out in one trip is quite a good thing.)

The GFWC Plantation Woman’s Club received a proclamation to mark their 75th anniversary. The club started the first library in the city and now supports programs for foster children and educational projects. It provides volunteers who run Tiger Buck Store - an incentive reward store at Plantation Elementary.
The club regularly donates to city projects, including equipment for police dogs, fire training equipment, drones, electronic sign boards, as well as sponsorships for Parks and Recreation events.
The city is conducting a crime watch meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Police Outreach Center at Broward Mall. Get tips on how to keep your neighborhood safe and hear from your neighbors. RSVP by calling (954) 916-5601.
I’m happy to say support continues to grow to build homes for educators at the corner of Hiatus Road and Broward Boulevard. The School Board already owns the 13-acre property and, while I have no direct control over what they do, I am committed to helping the city make it easier to cut through the red tape.
Buddy Nevins, author of BrowardBeat blog, recently presented a fair analysis of the challenges. Here is a link: www.BrowardBeat.com
If the idea moves forward, Council will also have a say in the project.

March 1: Rock the Park Concert at Pine Island Park. Food trucks open at 6 p.m. and music kicks off at 7 p.m. We had a brief detour from our regularly scheduled programming with a Saturday concert last month, but we want to make sure that you all know that the upcoming concert is on a Friday, again. The band is called GDR, short for Greatest Decade of Rock. Which decade are they referring to? Well, they play it coy: They don’t say.
