Ford's Garage, Burnie visit, County resilience, Proclamations and more.
The long-awaited Ford's Garage restaurant is open at Plantation Walk!
The restaurant is in the prime spot of the business area, across the street from Rock & Brews.
The community ribbon-cutting event is being planned for Saturday, Nov. 11, as part of a Veteran’s Day celebration that will include closing off the main street along the restaurant row and a car show. Time is TBA because the city has a Veteran's Day ceremony and they don't want to have conflicting schedules.

Barb Simmons, CEO of Westside Regional Medical Center for the past nine years, celebrated her retirement with a party at the Renaissance Hotel. Simmons began her career in 1975 as a nurse at Plantation General Hospital and eventually became CEO of Plantation General Hospital.
Simmons has been on the board of the Plantation Chamber of Commerce and served on the city’s Midtown Advisory Board.
I’m happy to say that Simmons will be the grand marshal at Plantation’s annual “It’s A Wonderful Life in Plantation Holiday Parade” at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18.

The students at Central Park Elementary celebrated another successful year of environmentalism with a pep rally that included dancing with Miami Heat mascot Burnie.
The celebration was part of the How Low Can You Go challenge that is sponsored by the Miami Heat, which encourages schools to reduce the amount of energy and water they consume throughout the school year.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Peter Licata, School Board member Debra Hixon and I briefly boogied with Burnie but got out of the way quickly as students shouted “LET’S GO HEAT!”
I am attending the Broward Leaders Water and Climate Academy, a four-session course offered by Broward County to elected officials to give us a greater understanding of all things water.
That includes: flooding, sea level rise, clean water, canal and water management, and the changing regulations of PFAs.
You will always see me taking every educational opportunity possible. See what the course is about at Broward.org.
More good work by our Public Works Department: Our signs division created a new display on the chambers podium for Breast Cancer Month.
Thanks to Edlyn Griffith in Planning and Zoning for going along as our model.
Our Police and Fire Departments wrapped their vehicles in support of the cause.
Representatives from the City of Plantation joined other staff and elected officials countywide in the 2023 Broward Leaders Resilience Roundtable Oct. 6 at Long Key Nature Center.
The roundtable included presentations from the county, state, South Florida Water Management District and others regarding ongoing resiliency efforts.
Plantation representatives shared the city’s resilience priorities that include building and maintaining adequate stormwater infrastructure, facilitating an inclusive multimodal transportation network and continuing to provide our residents with safe and clean drinking water.
We understand that you may have questions or need assistance with various aspects of our services. To ensure we are able to address all concerns, we want to share our departmental email contacts for help and general inquiries.

Friends of Libraries Week
Friends of Libraries Week included a recognition of Friends of the Helen B. Hoffman Plantation Library, who support a wide variety of print and electronic services for our local library. (I happen to be a member of Helen B. Hoffman Friends.) They have raised and donated $24,000 to our library over the course of last year.
Florida City Government Week
Florida City Government Week offers an opportunity to convey that residents can shape and influence government through their civic involvement. City government is the government closest to most citizens and the one with the most direct daily impact upon its residents.
During the two weeks leading up to Florida City Government Week, we have been testing how well our community knows what your City is responsible for on social media. Take a look at the questions by visiting Plantation.org/FCGW. Also follow our social media accounts to learn more about different aspects of your local government.
