Norma works part-time at the Veltri Tennis Center registration desk. She began at the Plantation Community Center’s hut in 1978, then moved over to the Veltri Center when it opened in 1981, working as a court attendant and playing in many leagues.
Plantation’s Independence Day parade is at 7:30 a.m. July 4 and begins at the intersection of Broward Blvd. and NW 46 Ave. Participants head west to NW 69 Ave., continue to NW 4 St. and then travel toward City Hall.
In the evening at Central Park, we have a kid's zone with inflatables starting at 6:00 p.m. and a concert beginning at 7 p.m., featuring the band Havoc 305. Fireworks start promptly at 9 p.m. The theme of this year’s festivities is Celebrating 70 Years of Community.

Plantation Inn to Be Demolished
The city is getting closer to ridding itself of Problem No. 1: The Plantation Inn is in line to be sold, then demolished. A Marriott brand hotel is expected to replace it.
The city has spent a disproportionate amount of police efforts at the inn, which lost its liquor license because of the amount of illicit activity there. Records show our police department received more than 900 calls for service at the Plantation Inn in the past 12 months.

Our system that electronically processes permit applications went live in November 2022. Since then, we received more than 4,000 online submittals.
In recent months we've identified and addressed issues that caused bottlenecks. As a result, we made tremendous strides in reducing the backlog and are now almost all caught up.
If you are planning a project, have your contractor review information on the permitting page on our website. It can help you avoid delays and pitfalls. We also have a training session video, various tutorials and forms available on our E-permitting webpage.
