Insurance Commissioner Mike Yaworsky Commends Governor Ron DeSantis for FY 2025-2026 Focus on Fiscal Responsibility Budget
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Insurance Commissioner Mike Yaworsky today issued the following statement in support of Governor Ron DeSantis' 2025-2026 Focus on Fiscal Responsibility Budget recommendations:
Commissioner Mike Yaworsky said, "Florida’s Office of Insurance Regulation is proactively taking steps to strengthen the insurance market and support policyholders. I want to thank Governor DeSantis for leading to promote a strong and stable marketplace.”
In addition to fully funding the Office’s legislative budget request, the Focus on Fiscal Responsibility Budget invests over $600 million to support and strengthen Florida's residential home and condo mitigation programs, fully funding a 45,000 waitlist, and providing 10,000 additional slots.
Key highlights of the recommendations include:
-
$475,000 to contract with a reinsurance expert to analyze reinsurance cycles. Reinsurance continues to play a major role in the property and casualty market; therefore, this funding will ensure that all aspects of reinsurance are appropriately evaluated and monitored;
-
$330,000 to establish a secondary OIR office to recruit additional qualified professionals to support OIR’s mission and additional budget authority to attract more talent to review rate and form filings from growing insurance companies, including strong actuarial support and staff to monitor insurer compliance;
-
$310,000 to bolster OIR’s data collection and analytics efforts; and
- The transfer of remaining administrative and technology responsibilities from the Department of Financial Services to OIR as authorized under Florida Statutes, Section 20.121.
