North Port residents urged to prepare for Tropical Storm Debby
The City of North Port continues to prepare for potential impacts from Tropical Storm Debby. North Port and Sarasota County remain under a tropical storm watch. Rainfall totals of 5 to 10 inches with isolated higher amounts up to 15 inches are expected over the next 5 days.
The City's Emergency Management team is actively monitoring the storm. Department of Public Works staff have taken action to reduce water levels throughout more than 80 miles of canals across North Port in anticipation of heavy rains. Sandbag operations are not being offered at this time.
Be prepared, stay informed
✅ Secure items around your home before tropical storm winds and rain arrive. Unsecured outdoor items like furniture, potted plants, or lawn ornaments can become projectiles in strong winds if left unsecured.
✅ Keep up to date on emergency information by registering to receive notifications at AlertSarasotaCounty.com. Monitor official local news sources, including the U.S. National Weather Service, the National Hurricane Center and NorthPortFL.gov/Alerts
✅ If street flooding occurs: Do not attempt to drive or wade through flooded streets. Flood waters can present unseen hazards to both cars and individuals. Wait for flood waters to recede before attempting to drive.
✅ Have a disaster supply kit stocked with at least 7 days worth of non-perishable food, water, and necessary medication for each member of the household including pets.
Parks and Recreation closures
The North Port Aquatic Center, Warm Mineral Springs Park and all fields will be closed Sunday, Aug. 4. The Parks and Recreation Department will provide an update regarding the reopening of these facilities as soon as inspections are complete.
