The Library is Proud to Go Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎗
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We invite you to join us in raising awareness and support for those affected by this life-altering disease. With approximately one in eight women in the U.S. facing the risk of developing breast cancer, your involvement can truly make a difference.
Every year, Miami-Dade County partners with the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign to raise funds for cancer research and prevention. Help the Library's Making Strides team reach its goal! Here are some ways you can show your support:
-
Sign up for our special pink library card.
-
Support the cause by donating at any library location or online.
-
Stay informed on the disease by exploring our medical databases, reading lists and more.

Pablo Lopez is Building Meaningful Connections in Our Community 📚
Librarian Pablo Lopez has always had a deep appreciation for serving his community. Before joining the Miami-Dade Public Library System in 2016, Pablo gained valuable experience working in libraries at nursing schools and hospitals, where his passion for connecting people to resources truly took shape. Prior to that, he explored roles in real estate development, credential evaluation and the restaurant industry.
Now, as Branch Manager of the West Kendall Regional Library, Pablo oversees daily operations while fostering community engagement. He is dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of his patrons, ensuring they have the resources they need to thrive.
What is your favorite part about working for the Library? The best part of working at the Library is serving and connecting with the diverse people in our community. As public servants, we make meaningful impacts in people's lives, which gives me a deep sense of purpose and pride I’ve never felt in any other job. Working with my colleagues at various branches has been an incredible honor—we truly have the best library team around.
What was the last book or eBook you read and what did you think of it? Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. His concise language and tight pacing make for an engrossing read, while his poetic prose adds elegance. The book's themes are both poignant and relevant. It’s a great read that you can finish in one sitting.
What is your favorite Library resource? My favorite resources are Peterson's Career Prep and Test Prep. Career Prep assists patrons with resumes, cover letters, job training and searches, while Test Prep provides essential support for school and career exams, U.S. citizenship and even helps users find college scholarships!
Are you working on any new/upcoming projects? We're excited to host a special event with author Dr. Esther Zeledon in December. She will present her new book Creating Your Limitless Life and discuss its themes of self-empowerment and purposeful living. We're honored to welcome her and hear her insights.
Is there anything else you’d like to let us know about yourself? My wife and I both earned our doctoral degrees from the University of Dayton and are happily raising a 2-year-old daughter.
