Employee Spotlight
Congratulations to Celsa Flores for 30 Years of Library Service! 👏
Engaging with the youth and fostering a love for learning has led Celsa Flores to enriching her community with 30 years of service in the Miami-Dade Public Library System. She began her career in 1990 as a Library Page at Main Library while studying at Miami Dade College.
Today, Celsa serves as a Youth Services Specialist at the Arcola Lakes Branch Library, leading children's programs, storytimes and craft events. She strives to empower young patrons with literacy and creativity, extending the Library's reach into the community through partnerships with local organizations.
What inspired you to pursue a Library career? As a person diagnosed with dyslexia, I've never allowed it to limit my abilities, especially in pursuing my passion for working at the Library. My goal has always been to connect people with information and make a positive impact in the community, providing opportunities to those who are less fortunate or in need of our services to improve their quality of life.
What is your favorite part about working for the Library? My favorite part is empowering a diverse range of people with information. There's something special about being surrounded by knowledge and helping people unlock their potential, whether they are accessing literacy resources or finding their next favorite read.
What do you consider to be a personal achievement in your career at the Library? One of my proudest achievements is bridging the literacy gap in underserved communities. I am also particularly proud of the connections I've fostered with nearby schools to ensure children have library cards, giving them access to the wide range of services and resources offered by the Library.
Is there anything else you’d like to let us know about yourself? I enjoy swimming in my spare time, especially in the mornings before work. I go to a nearby recreational center where I swim 10 laps each day! It not only benefits my health but also helps keep unnecessary stress at bay. I also love to dance.
