Don't Forget to Sign Up for Our 2023 Summer Reading Challenge!
Our 2023 Summer Reading Challenge is officially underway! Congratulations to everyone who has already started the challenge. If you haven’t signed up yet, we encourage you to do so today.
Participants of all ages will have fun reading and logging their hours for a chance to win great prizes. An added bonus for students: reading can help prevent the "summer slide," the loss of knowledge and achievement gains made during the school year.
Every 30 minutes you spend reading or listening to a book earns you an entry into a prize drawing at the end of the challenge. The more you read, the greater your chances of winning! You'll earn another chance to win for each library program or event you attend.
Visit www.mdpls.org/2023SummerReading to sign up and learn more or stop by any Miami-Dade Public Library System location.

Employee Spotlight
Congratulations to Sandra Moros for 35 Years of Library Service!
Sandra Moros has devoted herself to enriching the lives of Miami-Dade County residents for the past 35 years. Every day, she greets patrons stopping by the Civic Center Branch Library (Porta Kiosk), located at the busy Civic Center Metrorail Station, with a smile and helps connect them to their favorite novels, audiobooks, movies and other library resources.
Her career with the Miami-Dade Public Library System began in 1988 at Main Library in downtown Miami. When the Civic Center Porta Kiosk opened its doors in 1992, Sandra was among the first to welcome visitors to the world's first library built on an elevated transit system. She enjoys making a difference in her community and lives by the saying, “Find a job you enjoy doing and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
What kinds of books do you like to read? Growing up I enjoyed classic children’s books like Curious George and The Story of Babar. As time went on, I grew to love reading nonfiction books, such as biographies, history or anything related to genealogy research.
Have you enjoyed any titles from our eContent providers recently? The last title I downloaded was the 2016 animated film Leap using hoopla Digital, my favorite eContent provider. It is quick and easy to use and you get your selection right away. hoopla Digital has eBooks, audiobooks, movies, music, comics and more – and I get to enjoy them all for free!
Do you have a favorite library resource? My favorite library resource would have to be the Library's website, www.mdpls.org. Through the website, I can connect to various databases and resources like Ancestry.com, Reference Solutions and The New York Times. I also routinely check the Calendar of Events page to see what is happening at my local library.
What do you consider to be a personal achievement in your career? In 2008, I was recognized for excellent library service by the Southeast Florida Library Information Network (SEFLIN), a nonprofit organization that provides resources and support to libraries and library workers. I was very appreciative of the recognition since I love to serve my patrons.
