Employee Spotlight
Meet Sheerly Moya, Circulation Services Supervisor
Sheerly Moya has been a trusted mentor to many of her coworkers throughout her career with the Miami-Dade Public Library System. As the Circulation Services Supervisor at the West Kendall Regional Library, Sheerly takes pride in her work and enjoys helping both her coworkers and patrons alike.
What drew you to a career with the Library? I started with the Miami-Dade Public Library System back in 1994 shelving books as a Library Page. I immediately fell in love with the job and all aspects involved. The responsibility of handling materials and being part of a team gave me a sense of fulfillment.
What is the best thing about your job? The people I get to meet each day and the lessons I learn from them. Listening, understanding and treating everyone with respect – that is the foundation of the Library’s role in our community. Whether it’s a patron or one of my coworkers, there is always something we can learn from each other.
What was the last book you read? Haha, well it was a children’s book called Grumpy Monkey, Party Time. It’s a great story with a meaningful message for both kids and adults that reminds us that it is okay to speak up in an uncomfortable situation.
What do you consider to be a personal achievement in your career? Throughout my years at the Library, I’ve had the opportunity to teach and guide many employees to become great leaders as librarians, supervisors and managers. I am proud and honored to have played a role in building their careers and seeing them thrive.

In Search of the Higgs Boson by Xavier Cortada
Explore artist Xavier Cortada's roaming exhibition, In Search of the Higgs Boson, at the Miami-Dade Public Library System now through September 7!
In 2013, Cortada created five striking, large-scale banners to honor the remarkable scientific achievements of CERN researchers who utilized five distinct search strategies to discover the Higgs boson, helping to prove the Standard Model of Physics. The banners are permanently displayed at the precise location where the particle was discovered.
Currently on view at Main Library through May 25.
