Community Resource

Need a Photo ID? Apply for a Miami-Dade Community ID

Many people who live in Miami-Dade County don't meet the necessary requirements to get a driver's license or state-issued identification, which can make proving their identity for numerous day-to-day activities and resources a challenge.

The Miami-Dade Community ID program, administered by the nonprofit Branches, can help. Anyone who lives in Miami-Dade County is eligible to apply for a Community ID, which can be used to access select Miami-Dade County services and makes it easier for people to identify themselves to social service agencies, health care centers and more.

To apply, you must pre-register to attend one of the Miami-Dade Community ID events being held throughout the County, including several Miami-Dade Public Library System locations.

Krystal Powell

Employee Spotlight

Krystal Powell's Soul Thrives on Helping the Public

Before joining the Miami-Dade Public Library System in 2016, Krystal Powell created programming for kids as a service aide in the  Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department.

She used that experience and her imagination to help create unique events for all ages at the library – including a highly popular escape room at North Dade Regional Library. Krystal currently serves as manager of the Arcola Lakes Branch Library.

What is your favorite online library resource? Mango Languages because I have a strong interest in learning to speak Haitian Creole. I practice phrases with my colleagues and patrons.

What is the last book you read and what did you think of it? Sis Don’t Settle: How to Stay Smart in Matters of the Heart by Divorce Court Judge Faith Jenkins who offers tips on avoiding common dating missteps and pitfalls.

What is your all-time favorite library program?  The adrenaline-packed Escape Pirate Cove and Halloween Haunted House events held at the North Dade Regional Library. The Escape Room Pirate Cove event was well thought out, with immersive décor and clever clues.

What was the last title you downloaded from the Library's eContent? The Feeding the Soul audiobook by Tabitha Brown from the Libby, by OverDrive app because it speaks to my profession.

What was your favorite subject in school? My favorite subject was science because I was a curious kid and wanted to know why things happened. I enjoyed conducting experiments, creating science projects and testing my ideas.

What is a library service you'd like more people to know about? Miami-Dade Public Libraries narrows the digital divide by providing computer classes for all ages and mobile technology, like Chromebooks with built-in internet access, to borrow and take home. This is an outstanding achievement because families don’t always have access to the internet.
