LIBRARY STORY
Your stories bring to life the many valuable programs and services that our public libraries provide to the community. As we continue to celebrate our 50th anniversary, we share Ana's memories of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) exploration at the Westchester Regional Library.
“I was thrilled when the Westchester Regional Library opened. I spent many days as a student going through the stacks, reading magazines, and doing research. One of my most memorable high school experiences was when a classmate and I started a science camp for kids at the library with the help of an amazing librarian. We conducted experiments and talked about how the natural world works. We popped corn to talk about humidity and the scientific method, grew seeds in different environments and we had lots of fun with what we now call STEM. I was nominated as a Silver Knight at Southwest Miami High School in part for the work I did with this science camp. I still love STEM and encourage minorities and women to go into STEM fields as a way to make a great living while helping to solve some of our greatest global challenges.”
We'd love to hear your story. Click here to share your favorite library memory or experience with us.

Employee Spotlight
Great Customer Service is the Goal
Kelishia Rolle makes applying for a passport as easy as a trip to the library.
As a Passport Services Clerk at the North Dade Regional Library, Kelishia oversees one of two official Passport Application Acceptance Facilities for the U.S. Department of State. The Library's Passport Acceptance Facilities, located at the North Dade and South Dade Regional Libraries – a convenient way for people to access passport services – processed approximately 5,600 applications from October 2020 through September 2021.
Kelishia began working with the Miami-Dade Public Library System in April 2018 as a part-time Library Page at the Miami Lakes Branch Library where she was responsible for organizing books, DVDs and other library materials. She became a full-time library assistant at the South Shore Branch Library later the same year.
In 2021, she was promoted to her current position of Passport Services Clerk. Kelishia says her favorite part of the job is providing customers with excellent customer service by walking them through the passport application, explaining the process and making them feel confident that they are receiving the best service possible.
“My greatest achievement is being able to educate and assist others who had little or no knowledge about applying for a passport,” Kelishia said. “I really enjoy sharing this amazing program with the public and all the other great services the Library offers to the community.”
