Major McGuire

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Director, Colonel Gene Spaulding, has appointed Captain Erick Lee McGuire as the new Major of Troop I, effective, June 26, 2020. Major McGuire began his career with the Florida Highway Patrol in 2007 and most recently served as the Troop I, District Commander in Jacksonville.

“Major McGuire brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to Troop I and is ready for the challenge,” said Colonel Gene Spaulding, Director of the Florida Highway Patrol. “With his vast experience in commercial truck enforcement. I am confident Major McGuire will excel in his new position.”

Major McGuire began his career with the Florida Highway Patrol in the Jacksonville Field Office. While in Jacksonville, he served as a Field Training Officer and actively competed in the Florida Inspector Championship (FIC) and the North America Inspector Championship (NAIC). Major McGuire won FIC’s Grand Champion award six consecutive years and earned six International Awards while competing in NAIC. Major McGuire won NAIC’s prestigious John Youngblood Award of Excellence, which is an honor NAIC contestants bestow upon a fellow NAIC inspector who exemplifies the highest standards and unwavering dedication to the commercial vehicle enforcement profession.

Major McGuire has served the Florida Highway Patrol as a CVE Trooper, Sergeant in the Troop I Training Section, Lieutenant supervising the Troop J Orlando CVE Sub-District, and most recently, Captain supervising the Troop I Jacksonville CVE District.

During his tenure, Major McGuire has been a National Training Master Instructor for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s National Training Center and currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s North American Inspectors Championship program. Major McGuire is a respected

leader in commercial safety and has developed strong working relationship with commercial vehicle stakeholders throughout North America.

Major McGuire is dedicated to ensuring he plays a vital role in FHP’s mission, by helping make the roads a safer place. He believes that strong morals and integrity are essential to obtaining desired goals. Major McGuire is a devoted husband and father of two beautiful girls. One of his daughters has followed in his footsteps and currently serves as a state law enforcement officer.
