1. Customer Connections - November 2023
This month, FPUA is thankful and celebrates the many ways our team gives back to the community, plus ways you can join our team. The City of Fort Pierce also shares ways to get involved and Revitalize Your Neighborhood.
Customers previously received notice of a proposed adjustment to the water and wastewater rates scheduled for adoption on September 19, 2023, which, if adopted, would have become effective October 1, 2023. In order to provide additional time for public feedback, Fort Pierce Utilities Authority has rescheduled the second reading and adoption hearing.
The rescheduled hearing will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, commencing at 4:00pm, or as soon thereafter as may be heard, in the City Commission Chambers, 100 North U.S. 1, Fort Pierce, Florida, during which Fort Pierce Utilities Authority will consider, on second reading at a public hearing, adoption by resolutions of an increase of 7.07% to its water and wastewater rates, that if adopted will become effective January 1, 2024.
The proposed rate changes respond directly to inflation and the rising cost of materials and labor, as recommended statewide by the Florida Public Service Commission.
Public utility systems like FPUA are owned by the people we serve. The purpose of the public meeting is to solicit public comments regarding the proposed changes. We value your feedback, and encourage you to learn more about our many services and provide your feedback at the upcoming public hearing.
Additional information is available at www.FPUA.com.

4. U.S. Dept. of Energy Selects FPUA for $5.8M grant
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) selected Fort Pierce Utilities Authority to receive $5,828,993 to enhance and modernize the Fort Pierce electric grid. The funds will advance FPUA’s broader initiative to storm-harden and modernize the electric grid ensuring grid reliability and quality of service for our customers.
“Today’s announcement represents the largest-ever direct investment in critical grid infrastructure, supporting projects that will harden systems, improve energy reliability and affordability,” said U.S Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm. “Extreme weather events fueled by climate change will continue to strain the nation’s aging transmission systems, but President Biden’s Investing in America agenda will ensure America’s power grid can provide reliable, affordable power.”
“FPUA is incredibly proud to bring this support and funding to our community,” said Javier Cisneros, FPUA Director of Utilities. “These projects empower FPUA to maintain reliable electric service while reducing impacts on the grid caused by unexpected outages, extreme weather, and natural disasters. This project also represents tremendous effort by our electric and grant writing teams to build more resilient and sustainable infrastructure for Fort Pierce with support from grant funding.”
