 PUBLIC POWER WEEK 2022
As of the September 22nd equinox, fall is officially here, and there is much to look forward to. Pumpkin spice lattes, pies, plaid and Public Power Week! From October 2 to 8, public power utilities across the country celebrate by helping customers and stakeholders gain a better understanding of how they can reap the benefits of being served by a hometown utility. Benefits such as affordable energy, better service, and a utility that cares about the overall well-being and growth of your community.
What is public power?
Public power utilities are not-for-profit entities owned by their communities. Across the United States, 2,011 public power utilities serve 49 million people in 49 states and five territories.
On Friday, October 7th, all Fort Pierce Utilities Authority divisions will be at the Main Street Fort Pierce FridayFest from 5:30p to 8:30pm. FridayFest includes arts, crafts, vendors, and music and takes place in Marina Square.

Project Updates
-
Electric and gas utilities. Critical storm hardening measures and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) will help improve safety and efficiency. Once AMI is installed, customers will be able to track their utility usage and monthly bill on a real-time basis.
-
Water and wastewater. The long-awaited relocation project of the aging sewer treatment plant off of South Hutchinson Island is continuing its progress. Construction is expected to start in January 2023 and finish in December 2024. This new plant will mean better protection for the Indian River Lagoon, more energy-efficient operations, and a reduction of the draw of freshwater from the Floridan aquifer by an average of two million gallons per day.
-
Expansion of gas, water, and wastewater services. This expansion will allow us to increase our customer base and reduce your share of the cost to maintain the utility infrastructure.
