OPEN COMPETITIVE ANNOUNCEMENT
FWC - Fish and Wildlife Research Institute
SECTION: Marine Fisheries Research, Fisheries-Independent Monitoring
LOCATION: East Point, Florida
FACILITY: FWC/FWRI Apalachicola Field Lab
No moving expenses provided.
Funding for this position is provided by a five-year recurring federal grant, subject to annual renewals.
Job Description: Successful candidate will direct all Apalachicola field lab fisheries operations including but not limited to: supervising and mentoring staff, staff scheduling, overseeing/collaborating with all programs at the field lab, conducting all aspects of the fisheries-independent monitoring program and overseeing timely and accurate completion of administrative issues associated with the field lab. Successful candidate will be encouraged to seek outside funding to further enhance our mission in the region. Scientific writing and presentation at conferences is encouraged.
Preferred Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in one of the biological in fisheries or a closely related field is required. Preference may be given to applicants with an advanced degree in one of the fisheries sciences who has managed a fisheries research program, including the supervision of scientific research staff. A successful track record in grant writing and administration and in the publication of research in peer reviewed journals is highly desired.
Entry Level Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: management and supervisory practices, principles, and procedures; marine and estuarine fish identification, methods and gear used for collection of fisheries samples, personal computers and database software and marine fisheries and statistical analysis. Ability to: analyze complex data sets, write research proposals and manuscripts, perform strenuous field duties in adverse conditions, safely operate and trailer vessels less than 26’ in length, establish and maintain effective working relationships, determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work assignments, effectively supervise people, communicate clearly, assess budgetary needs, track program budget; and assist in preparation of budget for section.
Licensure Required: A valid driver’s license
