April 10 is almost here!

As you finish up plans for the 2023 celebration, visit the Florida Gopher Tortoise Day website and the FWC’s Gopher Tortoise Education Corner to “dig” up materials and resources to help make your day a success. Please don’t forget to email us your proclamations, event information and celebration photos! 

Educational Materials

A variety of materials are available to complement any type of Gopher Tortoise Day event or activity. Both kids and adults will have a blast doing hands-on activities that can be easily implemented using the materials below. You can add any of these to an event or volunteer day, or just for fun at any time!

• Educators can now download the FWC’s gopher tortoise curriculum in digital format to plan their Gopher Tortoise Day lessons.
• Find instructions to make your own gopher tortoise burrow.
• Print out crafts, books and coloring pages.
• Learn more about living alongside gopher tortoises with factsheets, brochures and the Gopher Tortoise Friendly Yard program

Gopher Tortoise Day Proclamation

Join cities and local organizations like the City of Venice and the Friends of Split Oak Forest by creating a proclamation declaring April 10 as Gopher Tortoise Day. The Florida Gopher Tortoise Day Website has a sample and previous examples that any entity can use to help create their own proclamation.

Become a shell-ebrity and help spread the word about gopher tortoises through social media and local media outlets!
