Duties;
Professional Engineer III - OPS
This is a full-time OPS position working within the Division of Habitat and Species, Public Access Services Office. It is based in Tallahassee, Florida and is statewide in scope. Responsibilities of this position include preparing or overseeing the design, permitting and construction of multiple complex projects. These projects are generally located in remote areas and require context sensitive solutions. Actual work hours are flexible and variable as required. The position requires frequent travel.
Project types include: but are not limited to: public access facilities such as entries, boardwalks, fishing piers, viewing structure. kiosks, trails, buildings (offices, pole barns, pavilions, shop areas), ADA retrofits, aquatic and marine habitat restoration such as seagrass plantings, living shorelines, ephemeral wetland restoration, hydrologic studies and lake restoration projects.
Responsibilities include preparing or reviewing design, permit and bid packages, including technical specifications and ensuring compliance of engineering projects with purchasing and permitting requirements. Oversees on-site inspections of appropriate facilities and projects to ensure technical compliance to the plans/specifications. Assists other Sections within HSC and other Divisions within FWC with engineering projects as assigned.
Under the guidance of the Design Manager, develops project scopes, budgets, negotiates fees and manages contract files; tracks and certified project deliverables, assists in the development of the design program, provides technical guidance to construction staff; coordinates projects with other agency divisions and offices and external stakeholders.
Knowledge, skills and abilities for this position
Knowledge of engineering design, construction, production and/or operations. Skill in using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments. Ability to analyze and interpret engineering data. Ability to plan, design, evaluate and investigate engineering works and systems. Ability to apply engineering quantitative techniques. Ability to monitor and inspect engineering projects. Ability to solve problems relating to engineering. Ability to communicate engineering information effectively. Ability to plan, organize, manage and track numerous projects at once. Strong attention to detail. Ability to develop or review and negotiate clear and concise project scopes with well-defined deliverables. Competency in AutoCad is desired, Competency in Excel is required.
Minimum requirements
The applicant must possess a degree in civil engineering or a closely related field, a minimum of five (5) years of experience overseeing engineering projects. The applicant must be registered as a Professional engineer in accordance with Florida Statutes. Must possess a valid driver’s license, be able to travel an average of 25% of the time and must be able to work in remote areas in sometimes harsh physical conditions.
