Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; and three years of experience in property maintenance, construction and/or facility repairs. Experience with conducting fishing and boating programming. Ability to do occasional overnight travel required and ability to work hours in excess of 40 per week, occasional weekends and evenings required.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Manage property development and maintenance needs of the Everglades Youth Conservation Camp (EYCC) to ensure stewardship of current resources and identification of future needs

  • Monitor facility and property for proactive preventative maintenance needs, conduct monthly assessment of property and maintenance needs, perform repairs to facility and property as able and necessary
  • Maintain facility and property improvements, supplies, and equipment (to include vehicles and vessels) to keep them safe, clean, organized and in working order
  • Initiate purchase requisitions for supplies, materials and repairs, complying with all purchasing and contract rules and regulations
  • Maintain grounds and waterbodies, including mowing, landscaping and invasive plant removal as needed
  • Provide oversight of vendor/contract services to include electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, controls, generators and safety equipment and conduct regularly scheduled inspections of facilities for compliance with all state, local, fire marshal, and federal safety building codes
  • Supervise cleaning of all EYCC facilities before and after group use, assist with cleaning as necessary
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of the hurricane preparedness program and other emergency event planning

 

Provide programmatic instruction and communicate with stakeholders, visitors and partners

  • Promote EYCC programs and facilities to the general public, specialty groups and site visitors to gain support of the facility and increase usage
  • Participate in public outreach and educational programming, to include the set up and strike of facility accommodations, assistance with programmatic instruction, supervision of participants, and recreational equipment repair
  • Communicate effectively to visitors about EYCC through in-person, telephone and program/event interactions

 

Ensure camp facility is in compliance, maintains procedures and operates according to American Camp Association (ACA) standards

  • Ensure compliance with ACA standards as pertains to facilities and site improvements
  • Examine current ACA guidelines for changes in regulation and become familiar with additions or alterations
  • Complete all required training related to ACA standards, risk management, and child protection policy

 

Administrative Duties: Attend staff meetings, complete and submit required reports, participate in professional development courses, and complete timesheets in a timely and thorough manner. Assure that files and documentation are complete, accurate, and confidentially maintained; and, perform other duties as required.

 

Job Requirements

-Valid driver’s license

-Within six months of employment, successful completion and certification in First Aid/CPR/AED, Lifeguard, ACA Level I Kayak Instructor, USA Archery Level II Instructor, FWC Trailer Training, and Hunter Safety Certification

-Occasional overnight travel required

-Program activities may require hours in excess of 40 per week, occasional weekends and evenings required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

-Skilled at operating and maintaining hand and power tools, tractors, ATVs, boats, trucks and landscaping equipment

-Ability to maintain property, equipment, vehicles and vessels. Knowledge of fishing, fishing equipment and boating

-Experience with firearms, archery equipment, hunting and shooting sports

-Skilled in operational planning, delegation and collaborative team building, public speaking, and use of Microsoft Word and Excel

-Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; be a team player and work integrally with various stakeholders, partners and government agencies

-Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; work independently

Take initiative and work creatively; communicate clearly, verbally and in writing

-Deal professionally and sensitively with a diverse audience and a wide range of contacts at different levels

-Adjust to and use new approaches in the performance of his/her duties

-Ability to travel, enter and exit a vehicle or/and vessel without assistance, lift 55 pounds and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions.

Courteously assists Commission constituents to resolve questions or problems they may have in matters relating to the Commission, its programs or fish and wildlife conservation in general. Seeks to garner public support for agency objectives and programs by serving Florida’s citizens in a positive and pro-active manner.

Work at FWC is cross-functional meaning duties may cross division/office lines.  The Commission expects employees to function across FWC’s organizational structure by providing their skills and expertise wherever needed through work on teams or as directed.

 

Responsible for following the provisions and requirements in Section 215.422, Florida Statutes, related to the Department of Financial Services rules and FWC’s invoice processing and warrant distribution procedures.
