Greetings lionfish hunters,

Hope you’re having a wonderful start to the new year! On behalf of the FWC Lionfish Control Team, we are excited for another productive year of lionfish tournaments and festivals! From 2014-2018, Florida has held 141 lionfish tournaments that have removed over 103,802 lionfish from Florida waters. In 2018 alone, 23 tournaments removed 20,522 lionfish. As you know, these impressive removal efforts require a significant amount of time and resources, and FWC would like to continue to support you!

Attached is the 2019 FWC Tournament Assistance Program requirements and application. Please use this form when applying for assistance funds for your 2019 tournament. The funding tiers and requirements have remained the same from the 2018 program, but please note the additional details on the final reporting and invoice requirements as well as an invoice template for your use.

Tournament organizers – have you set the date of your 2019 tournament, but are not ready to submit your application? Please email Lionfish@MyFWC.com the following information so that we can add it to FWC’s lionfish tournament calendar:

  • Tournament name
  • Tournament dates
  • Location
  • Contact name and email address

If you or anyone you know are interested in hosting a tournament, but need some assistance on where to start, local contacts, and lessons learned – please contact us at Lionfish@MyFWC.com and we’d be happy to help you get started!

Lastly – please forward this information on to others that may be interested in applying for assistance funds. The program provides up to $2,400 in support for lionfish-specific tournaments as well as $500 for tournaments with a lionfish category.

Thank you for your continued dedication to lionfish control efforts in Florida. We look forward to working with you in 2019!

Happy lionfish hunting,

FWC Lionfish Control Team
