Laura Russell Joins Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida Board

St. Petersburg, FL (May 25, 2018) – Palm Beach County civic leader Laura Russell has been appointed to a three-year term on the board of directors of the nonprofit Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida.

The Tallahassee native was elected at a recent meeting of the Foundation’s board of directors. Board Chair Dick Corbett said he was delighted to welcome Ms. Russell to the board. 

“Laura is an avid outdoorswoman and has significant experience in business, government and nonprofits. She brings considerable pragmatism and passion for improving the quality of life in Florida, as well as a deep personal connection to Florida’s natural environment,” said Corbett. 

Laura Russell graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Certificate in special event planning.  Upon graduation, she started her career in public service by working for the Florida Senate, serving Senate President Jeff Atwater and Senator Ellyn Bogdanoff.  She currently works with her family's company, Cheney Brothers, an independent food distribution company.  She is a past president of the Junior League of the Palm Beaches and serves on the national board of directors for the FSU Alumni Association. She is also a board member of the Palm Beach County Food Bank.  She and her husband Byron and stepdaughters Skyler and Regan live in Jupiter.

“I know I speak for our entire board in looking forward to working with Laura here in Palm Beach County,” said area Foundation board member Tucker Frederickson. “Our fundraising efforts in support of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Everglades Youth Conservation Camp and other area conservation projects will greatly benefit from her participation.”

The Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the FWC and other public and private partners to conserve Florida’s outstanding fish and wildlife resources and the lands and waters they need to survive. Since its founding in 1994, the Foundation has raised and donated more than $27 million to conservation and outdoor recreation and education. Current projects with the FWC include renovation and expansion of Palm Beach County’s historic Everglades Youth Conservation Camp and the Palm Beach County Shooting Sports Park, currently under construction.  More information can be found at www.wildlifeflorida.org.
