FWC Executive Director Nick Wiley accepts position with Ducks Unlimited, continuing life’s work in conservation

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) congratulates Executive Director Nick Wiley on his new position as Chief Conservation Officer of Ducks Unlimited, a national organization with a mission to conserve, restore and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl as well as other wildlife and people. He’ll begin his new role in January 2018.

“Nick has been an unstoppable force for Florida’s fish and wildlife resources for over 30 years,” said Brian Yablonski, FWC Chairman. “Working with him for 14 of those years, I’ve come to appreciate his natural ability to bring stakeholders and staff together to accomplish great deeds of conservation, all with an unwavering optimism and personal passion for the wildlife and habitats he works to sustain. Quite simply, Nick is a true champion of conservation. He is also a great personal friend who I will miss dearly. I know his dedication to conservation and drive for on-the-ground results will only strengthen such an historic and beloved organization as Ducks Unlimited.”

Wiley, a Certified Wildlife Biologist, began his service to the then-Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission in 1987. He has worked as a field biologist and in leadership roles in several FWC programs including alligator management, game management, and conservation lands management. He is a Fellow of the National Conservation Leadership Institute and a professional member of the Boone and Crockett Club. He served as 2016-17 Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies president and is currently the chair of the Council to Advance Hunting and the Shooting Sports.

Wiley is a Georgia native and has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Georgia Southern University and a Master of Science Degree in Wildlife Science from Auburn University.

“For almost 30 years, the FWC has been my family,” Wiley said. “As a team, alongside our Commissioners and stakeholders, we’ve worked diligently and successfully to conserve Florida’s fish and wildlife resources and provide opportunities for future generations to enjoy these resources. As I move on to new challenges with Ducks Unlimited, a big part of my heart will always be in Florida with my FWC family. I know this agency will continue to do great things for fish and wildlife conservation and the people of Florida.”
