Volunteers needed for Project Spring Clean at the Ocala Wildlife Management Area

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is seeking volunteers for a cleanup event on Saturday, April 23, the day after Earth Day. This cleanup is an effort to conserve the Ocala Wildlife Management Area habitat and keep it beautiful for public use.

The United States Forest Service and FWC are joining forces on this endeavor, along with Marion and Lake county solid waste departments, which are providing dumpsters and personnel.

The event kicks off at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of the Lake George Ranger District Office, 17147 East S.R. 40, Silver Springs, FL 34488. Disposal sites with dumpsters will be established at various locations throughout the Ocala National Forest and staffed until the conclusion of the event at 3 p.m.

“If anyone needs volunteer hours for their school, club or youth group, this would be a perfect project for them,” said Joe Simpson, an FWC law enforcement officer in the Ocala WMA. “Come spend your Earth Day with us.”

For registration and questions about this event, contact the FWC’s Ocala Regional Office at 352-732-1225.
