Information sought regarding unlawful harvest of alligator in Jackson County

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is seeking information regarding the unlawful harvest of an alligator in Jackson County.

The approximate 8-foot alligator was killed some time around the morning of May 8 and shortly after was hung by a steel chain from the Birchwood Road overpass that intersects Interstate 10. Around 4 a.m., a motorist traveling west on I-10 struck the hanging alligator, resulting in extensive damage to the vehicle.

The FWC asks anyone who has information regarding this incident to call its Wildlife Alert hotline at 888-404-FWCC (3922) or text Tip@MyFWC.com. People with information may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

It is unlawful to kill, injure, possess or capture an American alligator or other crocodilian unless authorized by the rules of the FWC.
