The year 2026 is significant as it will be an election year and also the 250th anniversary of the United States. On July 4, 2026, our nation will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This milestone presents a pivotal moment to honor the founding of our nation.
Locally, we have an important midterm election ahead. Federal, state, county and city offices will be on the ballot this year. We have many new residents in Flagler County who will need to learn about our government in Florida, and our local offices. Some of our long-time residents could use a refresher about what will be on the ballot, and how important these offices are, and how they impact our community.
Our Primary Election will be the most important election this year. Historically, and across Florida, we have low turnout in Primaries. The 2024 Primary turnout was 29.3%. Many people do not know that even if they don't declare a party affiliation, they can still vote. Even turnout among registered Republicans an Democrats was low.
2024 Primary Turnout
Eligible Voters: 93,969 Ballots Cast: 27,470
Republican 34.8% Democratic 33.7% NPA / Other 14.4%
This year, we should change that trend. This is the 250th anniversary of our nation, and every voter should use their voice during the Primary. Tell your family, friends, and neighbors they can make a difference by VOTING in AUGUST this year. Not only November. The elections begin in AUGUST. We can do better than 29% turnout and we should!
