Serving as the emergency response arm for the Hope Florida initiative, Activate Hope pulls together the private sector, nonprofits, and government resources to help Floridians get back on their feet following disaster. Activate Hope helps connect Floridians with outside resources to provide food, household goods, home repairs, and more.

TALLAHASSEE - The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) celebrated the graduation of 44 recruits from the 153rd basic recruit class. FDVA Executive Director James S. Hartsell served as keynote speaker during the Aug. 2 ceremony.
Graduates have undergone a rigorous 29 weeks of training, equivalent to 770 hours. This comprehensive training began on Jan. 15, 2024. It included high liability classes, defensive tactics, firearms, vehicle operations, and first aid, ensuring that our new troopers are well-prepared for the challenges they will face in their duties.
Of the 44 recruits who graduated in today’s ceremony, six come from proud law enforcement families, eight have family members in the FHP, four moved to Florida from other states (New York, Maryland, and Alabama), and 13 have military experience (Army, U.S. Coast Guard, Air Force, Marine Corps, National Guard).
We salute FDVA Leadership, Hope Florida and Care Portal Florida for working together in assisting U.S. Navy Veteran Fred Clotfelter with a couch, table and chairs, and kitchen items for his new apartment in Beverly Hills, Fla. Donations were made by Corner Stone Baptist Church on Aug 14.
