The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announces the appointment of Ms. Wende Dottor as the new executive director of the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System. Dottor will oversee delivery of health care to more than 138,000 Veterans and an operating budget of more than $1.8 billion at the nation’s largest VA health care system. More than 5,800 employees provide services at 26 locations serving a 50-county region in northern Florida and southern Georgia. To read more, click here. |
WASHINGTON — Between April 27 and May 29, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will support a 20,000-mile march with more than 214,000 volunteers in honor of Veterans and service members.
The annual collaboration between VA’s National Cemetery Administration and Carry The Load will host rallies at 38 national cemeteries along five separate routes covering 48 states. All five routes converge on Memorial Day weekend for a final rally in Dallas, Texas — the culminating event for “Memorial May.”

Those who wish to participate in a march are asked to register with Carry The Load in advance. Carry The Load is a non-profit organization providing active ways to connect Americans to the sacrifices of the nation's military, Veterans, first responders, and their families.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System hosted a Dedication Ceremony on April 7 for the new Gainesville Veteran Affairs Primary Care and Mental Health Clinics. The Primary Care Clinic, left, is located at 5469 SW 34th Street, and offers Primary Care, Telehealth, Mental Health and other services. The Mental Health Clinic, right, is located at 5465 SW 34th Street, and offers Mental Health Intensive Care Management, Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center, Suicide Prevention and other services.
SARASOTA, Fla. -- Bay Pines VA recently received $36 million in construction and $4.8 million in annual rent under recent PACT Act legislation. The funding is paving the way for construction of a new facility in Sarasota that will replace the current clinic.
Plans for the new facility are in the initial phases and include a modern, multi-specialty clinic that provides imaging modalities, as well as optometry, audiology and various medicine specialties. The expansion also includes accommodations for 221 additional full-time employees
The Sarasota VA Clinic has seen an 11.8% increase in unique patients since Fiscal 2020.
The leadership team from the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs participated in the annual Suits For Sessions campaign at the Capitol, April 5. The campaign, championed by Volunteer Florida, engages Florida legislators and staff, state agency employees and other Capital Region professionals to collect new or gently-worn business attire to help prepare job-seekers in need in our state.
