TALLAHASSEE - Commissioner Nikki Fried and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services announced they are joining the University of Central Florida’s Community Veterans History Project to honor and memorialize the personal accounts of Florida veterans who are members of Florida’s agriculture community.
“Florida’s veterans have always been a proud part of our state’s agriculture community. Unfortunately, there are few records that substantially describe the lives and contributions of these veterans,” shared Commissioner Nikki Fried. “We are honored to partner with UCF and participate in the UCF Community Veterans History Project — FDACS will ensure that the agricultural contributions of Florida’s veterans are not forgotten. We owe it to our veterans to provide them the benefits that they have earned after their years of military service, and that includes ensuring that we preserve their personal histories and the contributions that they have made to our state and nation.”
Veterans interested in sharing their story can contact the UCF Community Veterans History Project at 407-823-3817 or email riches@ucf.edu. Interviews will be scheduled beginning in January 2021. Learn more at https://vetstories.cah.ucf.edu/.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced it published an interim final rule affirming VA’s current policy allowing VA health care professionals to practice across state lines in accordance with the scope and requirements of their VA employment, regardless of conflicting state requirements.
This regulation allows VA the flexibility to mobilize and hire qualified health care professionals from any state and quickly place them in areas of need — which is especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic.
VA maintains and continues to exercise this authority. Reaching beyond the coronavirus pandemic and as identified in “VA’s Fourth Mission," the rule confirms VA’s authority to allow VA health care professionals, who may regularly cross state lines, to deliver care at other VA medical centers, as well as specific private hospitals, state Veterans homes and nursing homes.
